ARCOA Certifications

ARCOA is a multifaceted electronics recycling company performing environmentally friendly recycling, dismantling every product by hand to maximize the amount of materials that are recovered. Components of value are sold for reuse and other parts are sent to certified facilities for metals and plastics recovery.

All items from the de-manufacturing process are recycled. They handle every element of the process from pick up, data destruction, logistics, accountability, and asset management/investment recovery. ARCOA is R2 and ISO 14001 certified.

Prohibition Against Mixing E-Waste with Other Waste

Under the Illinois Electronic Products Recycling and Reuse Act, beginning January 1, 2012, no person may knowingly cause or allow the mixing of any of the following items with municipal waste that is intended for disposal at a landfill:

  • Computers
  • Video Games Consoles
  • Computer Monitors
  • Electronic Mice
  • Printers
  • Scanners
  • Televisions
  • Digital Converter Boxes
  • Electronic Keyboards
  • Cable Receivers
  • Fax Machines
  • Satellite Receivers
  • Videocassette Recorders
  • Digital Video Disc Recorders
  • Portable Digital Music Players
  • Small Scale Servers
  • Digital Video Disc Players
  • Facsimile Machines

Penalties

Generally, a person who violates any provision of the Act or fails to perform any duty under the Act is liable for a civil penalty of $7,000 for the violation and an additional civil penalty of $1,000 per day for each day the violation continues. However, residential consumers who violate either the prohibition against mixing electronic devices with other waste or the landfill ban commit a petty offense punishable by a fine of $25 for the first offense and a fine of $50 for subsequent violations. Any person or entity that is NOT a residential consumer who violates either the prohibition against mixing electronic devices with other waste or the landfill ban commits a petty offense punishable by a fine of $500. Violation of the Act are enforceable by administrative; however, fines assessed pursuant to an administrative citation for mixing electronic waste with other waste, or a violation of the landfill ban, are limited as outlined above.
